Curriculum Vita

Donald M. Shaffer, Jr. earned his B.A. from Jackson State University in 1995, his M.A. from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1997, and his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 2005. His dissertation, entitled Making Spaces: The Representation of Place and Identity in Black Migration Novels, 1903-1953, examines the genre of the black migration novel and its role in (re)conceptualizing black folk culture and urban community during the Great Migration. He recently received an ACI grant in 2007 and was co-lecturer at an ACI sponsored seminar held at Dominican University. His current research focuses on interracialism and identity politics in nineteenth and twentieth-century African American literature.
